First egg hunt draws hundreds to Red Run Park

WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Hundreds of families turned out Saturday for the first Easter egg hunt hosted by the Washington Township Police Department and Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department at Red Run Park.

The event featured five egg hunts, including a sensory-friendly hunt at 10:30 a.m. that drew 30 registered children. Age-based hunts followed at 11 a.m. for children ages 0-3, 11:20 a.m. for ages 4-6, 11:40 a.m. for ages 7-9 and 12:10 p.m. for ages 10-12.

Children raced through the park to collect eggs, then carried them to the pavilion to trade them in for candy. Some eggs contained slips of paper that allowed children to claim prizes.

Organizers said more than 15,000 eggs were hidden for the hunt, helping create a busy morning for the large crowd in attendance. The Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department also displayed an emergency vehicle, adding to the family-friendly activities.
