Fields of Golden Beauty as Far as the Eye Can See

If you’re looking for a fun and free outing that is full of breathtaking views, take a drive to the sunflower fields at Lesher Poultry Farm in Chambersburg, PA.

The fields this year are located along Rt. 914 (Swamp Fox Road), starting where Rt. 316 and Rt. 914 converge.

There are seemingly endless fields of gold, covering many fields on the farm. The views are stunning and make the perfect backdrop for capturing photo memories with family and friends.

The family owned and operated business started the venture in 2011, when they planted 10 acres of sunflowers as an experiment for an alternative to double crop soybeans. They welcomed the public to come and enjoy the flowers and received such positive feedback that it became a yearly planting. Ever-growing in popularity throughout the years, the flowers now cover more than 200 acres and are visited by thousands of people each summer.

I enjoyed the beautiful views this week with my mother, who has been visiting since the first year, and mother-in-law, while the flowers were in peak bloom. Peak is expected through September 4, but the flowers will still be in bloom and able to be enjoyed for most of the month.

Take advantage of the designated parking areas to make viewing the flowers easy and safe from other road traffic. Looks are free, and you may roam through the fields and take as many pictures as you’d like for free (professional photo shoot sessions are asked to make a per-subject donation).

Also plan to take some of the beauty home to enjoy. Visitors are invited to cut as many flowers as you’d like ($1 per stem donation is appreciated). All are welcome, including our furry friends, with fields open from dawn to dusk, seven days per week.

Enjoy the photo gallery of images we captured during our visit. They are even lovelier in person.
