GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Since its launch in late April, the Adams County Field to Festival Trail has seen nearly 200 users from 11 states – including Maine and Minnesota – register for its free digital passport.
The trail recognizes local growers and beverage makers as well as seasonal events and experiences that celebrate agriculture across the area. The passport offers incentives and rewards for guests as they navigate their journey.
“The Field to Festival Trail is a perfect way to bundle a lot of exciting experiences into a single convenient package,” said Reza Djalal, manager of the Adams County Farmers Market. “Festivals, fairs, and special events are an integral part of Adams County’s agritourism.”
Djalal said he has seen many people “trailblazing” by using the passport to redeem a check-in perk at the market. Sales were higher than average on the market’s opening day, despite poor weather, and Djalal said he thinks the new trail was a contributing factor.
Stephanie Badin, a resident of Mount Wolf in neighboring York County, and her husband travel to Gettysburg often. She said they completed the Adams County Pour Tour and enjoy visiting new places.
“We were very excited to see the changes. It opens up different events and locations that we’re excited to try,” Badin said. “Our goal is to visit all the stops.”
In addition to 17 locations across Adams County, the trail features fairs and festivals every month through mid-October, including the inaugural Latimore Valley Fair Pourfest in York Springs on June 26-27. The South Mountain Fair in Arendtsville, more than a century old, is scheduled July 21-25.
Other events include:
- June 13 – Pennsylvania Cider Fest
- July 26 – Historic Round Barn’s Old-Fashioned Corn Fest
- Aug. 15 – Gettysburg Brewfest
- Sept. 19-20 – 13th Annual Sweet Potato Festival
Jan Mordan, a resident of Hughesville in Lycoming County, discovered the trail while visiting Gettysburg with friends.
“We had come down for a weekend getaway and were looking for something to do,” said Mordan, who registered four passport check-ins during the visit. “I would like to come back down to check out some of the other events on the trail.”
