WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Emergency crews responded Monday evening to a reported shooting along or near the Appalachian Trail in Washington Township, according to initial dispatch traffic.
Calls were received shortly after 6:30 p.m. reporting a person injured in the area of Rattlesnake Run Road and Deerlick Road. The location is in a remote հատված of the mountain accessible from Mentzer Gap Road near Waynesboro.
Multiple agencies, including responders from Mont Alto, Waynesboro and Blue Ridge Summit, were dispatched to the scene. Emergency personnel requested all-terrain vehicles to reach the reported victim due to difficult terrain.
Early radio reports indicated a man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. A medical helicopter was also requested to assist with transport, though officials had not confirmed details late Monday.
According to a statement from the Washington Township Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. to assist with a medical call for a reported shooting near the Appalachian Trail, with access from Rattlesnake Run Road. Officers remained on scene to maintain scene integrity and assist with processing as needed.
Police said the incident was determined to be accidental and that there is no threat to the public. No further information is available for release at this time.
