Congressional Candidates – Maryland’s 6th District

Democratic Candidates

  1. George Gluck

Why are you running?

“I have been serving the students (and therefore their parents) of Congressional District 6 as a high school STEM, social studies, and now ESOL substitute teacher. I’d like to bring this same dedication to serving them in Congress.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

“I have two math degrees, and many chemistry/physics credits. I was a graduate student in the Computer Science graduate program at UMD, passed the Masters Comprehensive Test, and spent most of my career as an IT manager. I have a Masters degree from GW in IT management and a Certificate in Data Processing.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

“I am anxious to restore, and enhance, the democracy of this great country. In 2018, I composed this campaign slogan: Make America good again: This time for all of us.”

  1. Alexis Goldstein

Why are you running?

“I’m running because I’m pissed off. It’s gotten harder and harder for regular people just to get by, while billionaires are allowed to do whatever they want with impunity.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

“I worked on Wall Street in technology for seven years across three firms: Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank, with a specialization in trading systems for equity derivatives. I worked there before, during, and after the 2008 financial crisis, and watched the banks get bailed out while working families got sold out. So I quit, joined Occupy Wall Street, and spent the next decade pushing our government to rein in financial firms and Big Tech. I was honored to work at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where I was a proud union member (CFPB Union NTEU 335) and co-sponsored a resolution demanding an end to the Biden administration’s support of the genocide in Gaza. I spent every day keeping American consumers from being ripped off by financial companies — until Donald Trump fired me for standing up to DOGE.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

“As a senior technologist at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I focused on emerging issues, including cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, but with a focus on how it may impact regular people. I see many parallels in the way AI is largely funded through debt and complex financial engineering, and I believe it is headed for a financial bust that will impact all of us. That’s why I stridently oppose data centers being built in MD06.”

What do you feel is the most important thing you want voters to know about your campaign/you?

“I’ve spent my entire career becoming an expert in how the system works, from Washington to Wall Street. Now I’m running for Congress to make the system work for the people of Maryland’s 6th, not the billionaires.”

How do you plan to ease the lives of your potential constituents?

“I will be a relentless advocate in Congress on redirecting funding away from enriching the wealthy and fighting reckless wars abroad, and instead focus on investments in care: building more affordable housing, funding schools, investing in our healthcare system, and working to make childcare free.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

“I am a vocal skeptic of cryptocurrencies and extremely concerned with how the President has earned over $2 billion and counting through shady cryptocurrency companies–whereas Rep. McClain Delaney voted for two pro-crypto bills that will further enrich this predatory industry: the GENIUS Act (S.1582) and the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (H.R.3633). I’m not running as a vanity project – I’m running because I have a vision for how to change policy in Washington to make it work for the 99%, and shift federal funding away from attacking and detaining our neighbors, and towards real services and benefits for Americans.”

  1. David Trone

Why are you running?

I’m running for Congress because I’ve spent my life fighting for my community, and this moment demands leaders who stand up for Marylanders and make life easier for families. I grew up on a family farm that was eventually lost to bankruptcy, and I worked my way through graduate school on loans. I built a business that created thousands of jobs, offered same-sex partner benefits over 20 years ago, and hired more than 1,300 returning citizens. Over the past year, I’ve heard from many people that Congresswoman April McClain Delaney’s votes don’t reflect the district’s values, and she’s not standing up to the Trump Administration and fighting for Maryland families. She’s voted with Trump nearly twice as much as any other Democrat in our state. Folks asked me to step back in and fight for them, and I’m running because I think the 6th District deserves a representative who will consistently stand up for our communities and make life easier, not harder. In Congress, I worked to lower costs, raise wages, tackle addiction and mental health—and voted twice to impeach Donald Trump. Maryland needs a fighter—and I won’t back down.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

“My experience running a business showed me the importance of hard work, fairness, and taking responsibility for outcomes — values I carry into public service. That’s how I’ve fought back against policies that harm families and communities, and it’s how I’ll fight Trump’s agenda now. I’ll stand up for working people, protect families from unjust laws, and make sure our communities thrive, because leadership isn’t just about power — it’s about using it to do what’s right.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

“My top priorities in Congress center on strengthening communities and improving the lives of people in the Sixth District. That includes supporting policy addressing mental health and addiction in Western Maryland that ensures accessible treatment and resources for families across the district. While in Congress, I secured funding for mental health crisis centers across the state, including Washington County. I will continue to prioritize addressing mental health needs in Western Maryland, and will deliver results for families across the Sixth District. Finally, supporting rural health systems and increasing access to care are top priorities for me, as is championing our public schools and expanding opportunities for every child to thrive.”

What do you feel is the most important thing you want voters to know about your campaign/you?

“I was taught from an early age that you have to fight for what matters most in life. I grew up fighting to make ends meet and relied on student loans to get through graduate school. I fought to build a business from one small store into one of the nation’s largest retailers. And through it all, I learned that progress demands grit, steadfast commitment to your ideals, and standing up for one another and your community. That’s exactly what we need in Congress right now — fighters who stand with their communities boldly, relentlessly, and without compromise. I’m running for re-election because the moment demands it. We need to take the fight back to Washington and stand up against the Trump Administration. Most importantly, we need to fight for leadership that is rooted in compassion, competence, and civility.”

How do you plan to ease the lives of your potential constituents?

“The biggest challenges facing Marylanders are affordability and a broken immigration system. Families are being squeezed by rising costs, from housing to groceries. I’ll take on corporate price gouging and build a coalition to push back on tariffs that raise prices on working people. We also need humane immigration reform that strengthens and grows our economy, protects workers, keeps families together, and creates a pathway to citizenship.”

What sets you apart from other candidates?

“I’ve never taken a dime from Corporate PACs or lobbyists. Not once. When I was in Congress, the only people I answered to were the families of this district — never private interests or big donors. This fight is just too important to sit on the sidelines, and you can’t put a price tag on protecting our communities and our democracy. But here’s the thing, not a nickel of that will come from special interests. They can’t buy me. I’m in this to fight for our district. Period.”

  1. Ethan Wechtaluk

Why are you running?

“I’m running because too many leaders in Washington settle for incremental change while families are dealing with rising costs and attacks on their basic rights. I don’t believe this country is meant to tread water. I believe we can build something better—a government that works for working people, protects our freedoms, and invests in the next generation. That’s worth fighting for.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

“I grew up surrounded by public service. My mom was deeply involved in volunteer work in our community, and my dad was active in local politics, with close friends serving in county government. Around our dinner table, conversations weren’t abstract debates but were about how local decisions impacted our community. That’s where I first learned that politics, at its best, is about solving real problems for real people.

In high school, I started volunteering on campaigns, knocking doors and making calls. Later, I worked as an intern on Terry McAuliffe’s first gubernatorial campaign, where I saw firsthand how statewide campaigns are built and how messaging connects to governing.

Professionally, I’ve spent the last 15 years in federal consulting, working with agencies like Medicare, the FDA, the Health Insurance Marketplace, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. My focus has been on improving systems and making government more efficient, more accountable, and more responsive to the people it serves.

That combination—growing up around local government, working on campaigns from the ground up, and building a career inside federal systems—gives me both the political understanding and the operational experience to be effective from day one.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

“The area of public policy I’m most passionate about is healthcare. Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege tied to your job or income. I support moving to a Medicare for All system that guarantees universal coverage, eliminates medical bankruptcy, lowers prescription drug costs, and simplifies the system so families can get care without fear of a bill they can’t afford.

After that, protecting reproductive rights is deeply personal to me. I’m raising three daughters. Their autonomy and access to comprehensive healthcare are non-negotiable.

Practical gun reform is also personal. As a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting, I know what’s at stake when we fail to act. We can respect the Second Amendment while passing universal background checks and closing dangerous loopholes.

Climate action isn’t optional—it’s urgent. The climate crisis isn’t theoretical; it’s already driving up costs, worsening public health, and straining communities here in Maryland and across the country. We need bold, aggressive policies that rapidly cut emissions, hold major polluters accountable, and invest in clean energy infrastructure that creates good-paying union jobs.”

What do you feel is the most important thing you want voters to know about your campaign/you?

“The most important thing I want voters to know is that I’ll be clear about where I stand, even when it’s uncomfortable. I’m raising three daughters here in Maryland’s 6th District. The decisions Congress makes aren’t abstract to me; they shape my family’s future and yours. That’s why I won’t hedge, dodge, or poll-test my convictions.

I believe leadership means being honest with people, especially when the truth is hard. It means standing up to powerful interests, even when it’s politically inconvenient. You may not agree with me on every issue but you’ll always know what I believe, why I believe it, and who I’m fighting for—you.”

How do you plan to ease the lives of your potential constituents?

“My goal is simple: make life more affordable, more stable, and less stressful for working families in Maryland’s 6th District.

That means lowering everyday costs: protecting reproductive healthcare access, fighting price gouging in prescription drugs, investing in clean energy that actually reduces utility bills, and supporting policies that bring down childcare and housing costs.

It also means strengthening workforce training and apprenticeships so people can access good-paying jobs without taking on crushing debt. And it means protecting Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ benefits so families aren’t constantly worried about what gets cut next.

Government shouldn’t add chaos to people’s lives. It should create stability and opportunity. That’s the standard I’ll hold myself to.”

What sets you apart from other candidates?

“First, I’m not running to climb a ladder, I’m running to serve Maryland’s 6th District. I’ve spent 15 years working inside federal agencies, seeing where government falls short and where it works. I know how to improve it because I’ve done that work before. A lot of candidates talk about change and I’ve already helped deliver it.

Second, I don’t dodge hard issues. Whether it’s rejecting fossil fuel money, calling out corruption, defending reproductive rights as a father of three daughters, or pushing for serious climate action, I make it clear where I stand. Voters deserve that.

Third, I’m rooted here. I’ve built my life in Maryland’s 6th District, unlike my opponents. I’m raising my daughters here. I’m already serving my community locally. This isn’t a stepping stone for me, it’s my home and when it’s home the stakes are personal.

Finally, I’m willing to challenge the status quo inside my own party. Too many Democrats are comfortable managing decline, but I’m not. I believe in bold, practical action that delivers measurable results.

That’s the difference.”

Why are you running?

To bring JOBS to Washington County, and to widen I-81 through Washington County. To control government spending while keeping the US Government OPEN to serve the people of Washington County.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

Completed 40,000 cases in Maryland courts and hundreds in Washington County. Placed 25 charter amendments on ballot which received 2.5 million votes to impose term limits and limit property tax increases.  Worked with Delegate Neil Parrott to bring conservative viewpoints to Washington County.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

Being friendly to President Trump, rather than antagonistic as our present representative is, will help me make Washington County affordable, incentivize American jobs, tackle rising crime, and secure the border.”

What do you feel is the most important thing you want voters to know about your campaign/you?

“I’m the only active famer in the race, attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point after being appointed by Congressman Foley of Western Maryland, and have an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army.”

How do you plan to ease the lives of your potential constituents?

By being open, accessible, friendly, and knowledgeable about how the workings of the federal government, where my father worked for 40 years in the Library of Congress and my father-in-law, as a 3-star General, learned what peace-through-strength means.”

What sets you apart from other candidates?

“I am indefatigable, tireless, have lived a Republican lifetime in Western Maryland, and look upon President Trump as a friend.”
