WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Dogtoberfest and the annual Paws 5K raised approximately $9,000 for the Antietam Humane Society, organizers announced following the Oct. 10 event at Main Street Park.
The Paws 5K drew 70 registered participants. Shannon Shuttle and Precious were named the race winners.
Rough Edges Brewing’s Ales for Tails contest raised more than $7,400 through votes and donations. Combined with proceeds from the Paws 5K, the events brought the fundraising total to about $9,000 for the humane society.
Milo Bentz was named grand prize winner in the dog category. Henry Strait and Eddie Henderson were named runners-up.
The event also included a new “No Dogs Allowed” category. Hammy Kershaw Horne, a pig, won the category, while Jennie Henderson, a donkey, and Sunny Estrada, a cat, were named runners-up.

Organizers said Milo’s win carries special meaning. The dog died last month, and his family plans to celebrate his victory. His image will appear on a future Ales for Tails beer can, with proceeds supporting animals in need.
Dogtoberfest featured hot dogs, dog swag, pet treats and other items for sale. Rough Edges Brewing also served beer during the event.
The event was co-hosted by Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. and Rough Edges Brewing. Sponsors included McConnellsburg Veterinary Clinic, Trident Enterprises International, Corning Credit Union, Waynesboro Veterinary Clinic, For the Love of Dogs, Rough Edges Brewing and Antietam Humane Society.
Vendors included Rough Edges, Corning Credit Union, For the Love of Dogs, Pap’s Dog Stop, McConnellsburg Veterinary Clinic and Tiko-Treats-Toys.
Organizers said the official Ales for Tails beer can featuring this year’s grand prize winners will be released later this year.
