Despite stormy weather, Raelee Fry propels South to 10-0 win over Thomas Jefferson

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Raelee Fry did everything she could possibly do but stop the rain for the South Hagerstown softball team.

Fry had four hits, drove in six runs and pitched a three-hit shutout on Wednesday in the Rebels’ 10-0 victory in five innings over Thomas Johnson.

The game was delayed by lightning in the top of the fifth and was completed when South scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule. Shortly after the game finished, the area was hit by heavy rain.

The Rebels (2-3) put up three-run rallies in the first, third and fifth innings and added a single run in the second to get all they needed to finish early.

Fry was 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles to collect her second six-RBI game of the season. In the circle, issued one walk and struck out five to go with the three harmless singles.

South’s Ja’Seri Chapman made her own headlines with three hits and scoring two runs. She set South’s school record with her 43rd career stolen base, surpassing the mark held by Bethany Higgins. The two runs tied her with Madi Wade for most runs scored with 74.

Chelsea Desmond added to South’s 13-hit attack with two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Kaelynn Kunkle also had two hits and scored three times. Triana Williams added a hit and an RBI.

Kutztown-Shepherd game suspended by inclement weather

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Lightning won the day on Wednesday as a few weather delays forced the suspension of the Kutztown-Shepherd University game.

The game was halted with one remaining in the first half with Kutztown leading 9-2 in the PSAC East matchup. The game is scheduled to resume on April 20.

Attackers Rebekah Forney and Hadley Robertson scored the Rams’ two goals. Grace Lyon had five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
