Chambersburg Post 46 blanks Philipsburg, stays alive in Williamsport

Chambersburg Post 46

Chambersburg Post 46 kept its season alive Tuesday at the Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Tournament in Williamsport, blanking Philipsburg 2-0 to avoid elimination and move within reach of a Mid-Atlantic Regional berth.

After a loss to Greater Pittston on Monday, Post 46 responded with a sharp all-around effort at Williamsport Area High School. Carter Defenderfer delivered the kind of performance Chambersburg needed most, pitching a complete-game two-hitter with two strikeouts and working efficiently behind a quick early lead.

The only runs the Post needed came in the second inning. Aaron Vasquez started the rally with a one-out single, Tyson Brown drew a walk and Brycen Murray followed with a two-out, two-run double that sent both runners home.

That was enough for Defenderfer, who made the advantage stand up as Philipsburg’s Lukas Colton limited Chambersburg to five hits in the setback.

Chambersburg advanced to Wednesday’s final day with a rematch against Greater Pittston scheduled for 11 a.m. Because Greater Pittston remains undefeated, Post 46 will need to beat the Region 5 representative twice to advance.
