CHAMBERSBURG, Pa — The Franklin County Career and Technology Center welcomed a full roster of young learners Monday as its Exploratory STEM Camp returned for a second year, quickly reaching capacity ahead of opening day.
The three-day camp, which runs July 20-22 at the center’s Loop Road campus, introduces students entering fourth and fifth grades to hands-on technical learning through engaging, age-appropriate activities. Organizers said all available spots filled in advance, reflecting strong interest from families across the county.
Each morning session, held from 9 to 10:30 a.m., blends interactive instruction with practical application. Campers are exploring foundational concepts in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through projects such as basic computer programming, circuit building and introductory soldering.
Instructor Mr. Wilmot, along with CareerTech students and industry workforce partners, is leading the programming. The collaborative approach allows campers to learn not only from educators but also from students currently pursuing technical training and professionals working in the field.
The camp is a SkillsUSA national award-winning program and is offered at no cost to participants. It is designed to spark early interest in technical careers while building confidence through hands-on exploration.
As part of the experience, campers will also participate in a field trip to Niche Electronics on July 23. Transportation will be provided, with departure scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and return expected around 11:30 a.m.
The initiative is supported through a partnership with Niche Electronics and Letterkenny Army Depot, giving students exposure to real-world applications of STEM skills in the local workforce.
