WAYNESBORO, Pa. – Buttonwood Nature Center will host its 30th annual Kite Fly on Saturday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the field across from Hooverville Elementary School.
In celebration of National Kite Month, this event is free and open to the public of all ages.
Attendees can bring their own kites or build one at an on-site workshop. Brothers George Adams and Sam Adams will return as featured “kite masters,” offering demonstrations and individual instruction throughout the event.
“We hope kids and adults will stop by and build their own kite. It is fun to do, and these small handmade kites really fly well,” Sam Adams said.
Event organizers said the Kite Fly has become a longstanding community tradition marking the arrival of spring.
“Buttonwood’s annual Kite Fly is such a simple and beautiful way to kick off the spring season,” said Jessica Watson, assistant director of Buttonwood Nature Center. “We are thrilled to celebrate 30 years of this rite of spring. It’s exciting to see all those colorful kites in the air. This event is truly a fun time for all ages.”
Participants may also enter a free raffle for a chance to win a beginner kite. Two winners will be drawn at 2 p.m. Attendance is not required to win.
The event is underwritten by Buchanan Auto Park with additional support from Today’s Horizon Fund contributors, including the Nora Roberts Foundation, Marge Kiersz, APX Enclosures, Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson, and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy.
