Buttonwood Nature Center presents Youth Festival

WAYNESBORO – The 34th annual Youth Festival is on Sunday, May 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area. Presented by Buttonwood Nature Center, the event is free and open to the public.

An outdoor event geared for kids of all ages, Youth Fest features a variety of activities, demonstrations, exhibits and entertainment throughout the day, plus a professional guest performer.

“Kids will enjoy interactive experiences that are fun and educational,” said Jessica Watson, Buttonwood’s assistant director. “It’s important for kids to get outside for healthy activities and fun, and Youth Fest is geared toward outdoors play.”

Featured entertainment is “Bluegrass & Tall Tales,” performed by Bright Star Touring Theatre.

Bright Star Theatre’s musician actors take the audience on a journey across America. First, they will play bluegrass classics and then jump up to bring to life celebrated American “tall tales.”

From Paul Bunyan to a classic Appalachian Jack Tale, this show is brimming with lessons and wild characters. Meanwhile songs like ‘In the Pines’ celebrate this special music and tales from our country.

A Buttonwood staff member will lead a StoryWalk® and craft. Other activities include a performance by Waynesboro Children’s Theatre Troupe, and stations with Waynesboro Area School District’s Pre-K Counts; Alexander Hamilton Library; Blue Ridge Garden Club; Blue Ridge Summit Library; Waynesboro YMCA; Waynesboro Ceramic Arts Center; Buttonwood Water Striders; Franklin County Go Girls Go!; Franklin County BookMobile; and Peace 4 Peyton Water Safety Awareness.

Antietam Dairy will be selling scoops of ice cream.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, readers may visit www.buttonwoodnaturecenter.org, or contact Buttonwood at 717-762-0373 or via email: [email protected].

Youth Festival is underwritten in part by lead sponsor, Patriot Federal Credit Union, and by contributions to the Today’s Horizon Fund by The Nora Roberts Foundation; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
