GLEN BURNIE, Md. — The Boonsboro softball team proved that looks aren’t everything.
It doesn’t matter if your game is pretty or ugly, as long as you win.
What the Warriors lacked in aesthetics they made up with efficiency on Tuesday in a 5-1 victory over Dorchester at Bachman Softball Park.
Boonsboro scored five runs on four sacrifice flies and a groundout in the victory that advances it to its second Maryland Class 1A state final in three years. It was all of matter being fundamentally sound at the right times.
Playing Saturday against top-seeded Mardela
The undefeated and second-seeded Warriors earned a date to face top-seed Mardela, which is also undefeated, at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the University of Maryland. Mardela advanced by defeating No. 5 seed South Carroll 11-1 on Tuesday.
Boonsboro scratched out two runs in the first inning and a third in the third inning to support starting pitcher Addison Tyler. The Warriors added two runs in the sixth for the 5-0 advantage.
North Dorchester, the third seed in the state quarterfinals, got a run in the seventh to avoid the shutout.
Tyler pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing the one run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Ellie Harrell got the last two outs of the game, while allowing a walk.
Boonsboro constructed their offense around five hits, two walks and three stolen bases, basically doing just enough to get the win. Tyler, Mylee Hartman, Harrell and Mackenzie Cullen each produced sacrifice flies. Sydney Kulikowski collected the run-producing groundout.
The Warriors will be making their second appearance in the state final in three years. Boonsboro lost to Allegany in the 2024 championship game before losing to Catoctin in last year’s state semifinals.
