HARRISBURG— Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding reminds Pennsylvanians of the importance of vigilance against the Spotted Lanternfly as the bugs begin laying eggs on flat surfaces to overwinter and hatch in the spring. “Every Spotted Lanternfly egg mass not scraped and destroyed now is up to 50 more of these invasive, destructive bugs we can expect to hatch next spring,” said Redding. “We need every Pennsylvanian to hunt for egg masses this fall and winter and destroy them – or we’re in for a scary spring.” Franklin and seven other counties were added to the quarantine zone in…

WAYNESBORO–The Waynesboro Community Concert Association is offering free admission to active duty and reserve military, veterans and their families for their 84th “Celebrating Our Greatest Generation” concert series military appreciation concert. The event, scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in the WASHS auditorium, will feature Thomas Pandolfi, virtuoso pianist, with his “American Pop Piano.” The Waynesboro Community Concert Association, formed in 1936, is the oldest in the area, the only concert association in Franklin County, and has offered a concert season every year beginning in 1937.  Tickets for others are a $25 donation and available at waynesboropaconcerts.com. Look for the emergency lights and the and follow the directions to get to the trunk or treat line. WAYNESBORO—Waynesboro Area Middle School girls who want to try out for the Maidens Youth Volleyball Teams listen up. Tryouts will be held Oct. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the WASHS gymnasium. Girls in grades 5-6 who are currently attending the Waynesboro Area School District are eligible to try out. WAYNESBORO—Seniors at Waynesboro Area Senior High School got a taste of real life recently through a day of Financial Literacy 101. Twice a year, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Waynesboro go into WASHS classrooms and provide six activities designed to provide high school seniors with the basics they will need in life: budgeting, finance, shopping, investing and more. Activities are organized into morning and afternoon sessions and include fun activities to drive home the importance of money management.

GREENCASTLE—The Rotary Club of Waynesboro recently hosted the “Battle of the Minds” at Green Grove Gardens. The annual event, held each fall to raise funds for local community organizations, includes a silent auction, live auction, cocktail hour, meal and the Battle of the Minds trivia game. The game pits each table against others in a Trivial Pursuit-style game with multiple choice questions. WAYNESBORO—The Borough of Waynesboro Police Department has been awarded $45,264 in federal funding from the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services via the Community Policing Development Program. The grant award will fund the WPD’s pursuit to obtain and maintain accreditation through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. The WPD competed nationally for funding through the COPS CPD Program, with $33 million awarded nationwide in 2021 to advance the practice of community policing in law enforcement. CHAMBERSBURG—Orrstown Bank has committed $10,000 in Educational Improvement Tax Credit funds to support the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation initiatives. The contribution will be used to provide Technology Innovation Grants for educators in Franklin County public schools. These grants are awarded annually to encourage the innovative use of technology for students in Kindergarten through grade 12.
