​HARRISBURG – Repairs continue next week on the east shore ramps at the Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge over the Susquehanna River in the City of Harrisburg. Weather permitting, nighttime detours are planned for the ramp from Front Street to northbound I-83 (Ramp C); the ramp from Front Street to southbound I-83 (Ramp A), and the ramp from southbound I-83 to Second Street (Ramp D). WAYNESBORO—Floyd Chalfant, who purchased The Record Herald in 1925 and remained its publisher until his death in 1954, will be remembered with his portrait on permanent display at the Waynesboro Historical Society, thanks to a generous donation from his grandson, Paul Chalfant, of Shippensburg. As written in a 1954 Record Herald tribute, Chalfant “built the Record Herald on Christian precepts to which he held so unwaveringly.” His grandson visited the Oller House headquarters for the Society on Nov. 6 and presented the oil portrait painted by artist Helen McClees. MONT ALTO— Ret. Col. David Hammer will serve as keynote speaker during the Penn State Mont Alto Veterans Day Celebration at 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 11. The event will be held on the campus at the Veterans Memorial on the front side of Conklin Hall. It is handicap accessible, and the public is welcome to attend free of charge.
