ROUZERVILLE—A small group of Santa’s elves recently descended on the Waynesboro Walmart to shop to make a child’s holiday brighter. The Rotary Club of Waynesboro works with Waynesboro Community & Human Services and others each year to collect items for Toys for Children. “What a joyful task in the company of fellow community servants,” said Toys for Children Coordinator, Tracy Holiday. “Waynesboro Rotarians were supported once again by members of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as we scoured the toy section at Walmart to satisfy our wish lists.” The project will help brighten Christmas morning for 171 local children, in partnership…

CHAMBERSBURG—The Borough of Chambersburg has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. The grant will be used to partially fund the Chambersburg Police Department Renovation project, a comprehensive renovation plan to transform a portion of old City Hall into a facility exclusively for use by the Chambersburg Police Department. The Project is part of a two-phase facility renovation. The existing City Hall, located in historic downtown Chambersburg, supports borough administrative and police functions. Line Painting Scheduled on I-81 in Cumberland County Line painting is planned on a 12.3-mile resurfacing project on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County northbound and southbound I-81 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, December 9, Friday, Dec. 10, Monday, Dec. 13, and Tuesday, Dec. 14. HARRISBURG– The PennDOT Engineering District 8 region covering Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties wrapped up a successful construction season with 127 active projects, 42 of which were completed. This work included the Interstate 83 widening and reconstruction project near Harrisburg. ​HARRISBURG— The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission has awarded almost $2 million in Cultural and Historical Support Grants to 154 eligible museums and official county historical societies from 56 Pennsylvania counties, including three local ones: Conococheague Institute for the Study of Cultural Heritage, $4,000; Franklin County Historical Society, $4,000; and Renfrew Committee Inc., $4,000. WAYNESBORO—Rotary Club of Waynesboro’s annual event, Battle of the Minds, held in September, has raised $8,016 for The Institute. Battle of the Minds is a trivia event where teams compete to raise funds for local community organizations. The event includes a silent auction, live auction and dinner. This year’s contest drew 182 participants. Earnings are split 50/50 with a co-sponsor—this year was The Institute.
