CHAMBERSBURG—The Franklin County Commissioners will host a tire collection event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 8 at the former Franklin County Jail, 625 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg. Staff from the county’s Planning Department, under its mosquito and tick-borne disease control program, and All Cleaned Out Junk Removal are coordinating the event. Currently, strict guidelines and fees act to hinder some individuals’ ability to properly dispose of scrap tires. WAYNESBORO—A birthday celebration for Alexander Hamilton—the local resident, not the one on the ten-dollar bill—was held recently at Burns Hill Cemetery. The namesake of the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library is buried in the graveyard and members of the community united to celebrate the anniversary of what would’ve been his 229th birthday. Born in 1793 in Brandywine Manor, Chester County, to James Hamilton Sr. and Martha Wilson Hamilton, Hamilton moved to Waynesboro in 1817 after a fire claimed his home. ROUZERVILLE—Monterey Pass Pub & Eatery hosted a reopening recently during a Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce mixer. The event featured pulled pork, brisket and apple fritters. Owner Bob Backer expressed gratitude for the chance to reopen after the COVID pandemic shut them down. He said it was he and his wife’s dream to be able to offer the community a place like this near so much history at Monterey Pass and throughout the area. HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will resume a nearly 1.5-mile reconstruction project on Main Street in the Village of Scotland, Greene Township, this week. Weather permitting, southbound Main Street will be closed on Tuesday, March 1, between Woodstock Road and Scotland Avenue as part of the third phase of this multiple phase project.
