HARRISBURG– The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that in a continuing focus on modernization and streamlining processes as well as an added convenience to customers the use of weight class stickers has been eliminated, effective January 29, 2022. “Historically, trucks with a registered weight of 5,001 pounds or greater were required to display a truck weight class sticker on the inside of their vehicles windshield,” PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said. “This was an antiquated and unreliable indicator for law enforcement and inconvenient for the industry/vehicle owners. WAYNE HEIGHTS—Washington Township Police Department will join the Pennsylvania State Police and over 300 municipal agencies to conduct a targeted aggressive-driving enforcement wave from March 18 through April 24. The goal of targeted enforcement is to reduce the number of aggressive driving related crashes, injuries, and deaths on roadways throughout the state. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket. The enforcement wave will focus on distracted driving, speeding and work zone awareness. GETTYSBURG— Gettysburg National Battlefield’s Little Round Top will be closed for approximately 18 months for a rehabilitation project. This work is expected to begin later this spring . The rehabilitation of Little Round Top will address overwhelmed parking areas, poor accessibility and related safety hazards, significant erosion, and degraded vegetation. The scope of the project will reestablish, preserve, and protect the features that make up this segment of the battlefield landscape. HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that work on a 12.3-mile resurfacing project on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County is scheduled to resume next week. Weather permitting, the contractor will begin final paving operations during nighttime hours beginning the night of Sunday, March 20. This work will be performed weekly throughout the project limits from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday morning. THOMAS – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that a lane restriction will be in place beginning Thursday, March 17, w at a bridge replacement project on Route 30 in Saint Thomas Township.  The existing single span concrete T-beam bridge, which spans a Tributary to Back Creek on the west side of the intersection with Maxheimer Road, is being replaced in half-widths. HARRISBURG–The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) today released its preliminary employment figures for January 2022, showing the state’s unemployment rate down one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.4 percent. January’s report marks the 21st consecutive month without an unemployment rate increase. Meanwhile, the U.S. unemployment rate rose a tenth of a percentage point to 4.0 percent in January. The commonwealth’s unemployment rate was 2.1 percentage points below its January 2021 level and the national rate was down 2.4 points over the year.
