CHAMBERSBURG – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed April 2022 to be Child Abuse Prevention Month and are urging residents and local agencies to do their part to promote the healthy growth and development of Franklin County’s youth. According to national data, 1,750 children died from abuse and neglect in the U.S. in 2020. HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Wolf has announced a plan for a new scholarship program to make college education more attainable for thousands of students each year. BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT—Monterey Pass Battlefield Park & Museum will open for the season on Saturday, April 9. The park is a 125-acre natural, cultural and historical site that preserves a small portion of Pennsylvania’s second largest Civil War battle. The history of the area dates back to 1747, when immigrants looking for a new life traveled through the area to Appalachia on the Great Wagon Road. The “Elmer Hafer-American Legion-State Police-National Guard Youth Camp” will be held June 5-11, 2022 at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County. The six-day summer leadership camp is designed for teenagers, ages 15 to 17, interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or the military.
