HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of State today announced that its professional licensing waivers issued under the COVID-19 disaster declaration will begin expiring in phases starting May 23. All waivers will expire by June 30. The legislature ended the COVID-19 disaster declaration in June 2021, while extending some license waivers. Without a disaster declaration, the governor and the department cannot further extend the waivers. Legislative action is necessary to extend any active waiver. CHAMBERSBURG—The Franklin County Area Agency on Aging will offer a talk by guest speaker Peggy Ann Bradnick. As a teenager, Bradnick was kidnapped near her home in Shade Gap and the ensuing weeklong search made national headlines as the largest manhunt in Pennsylvania history at that time. HARRISBURG – Col. Robert Evanchick, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, has announced that 103 cadets have graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy—12 of them will be assigned to Franklin County. HAGERSTOWN, MD — When a police cruiser crashed into a home at 417 N. Jonathan St. on a wet day in 2018, the accident exposed a piece of long-forgotten history in the historically Black neighborhood. Hidden underneath layers of vinyl siding were hand-hewn timbers at least 200 years old revealing a log cabin.
