HARRISBURG—Pennsylvania’s fourth annual 1-4-3 Day will take place today, Monday, May 23, the 143rd day of 2022, encouraging Pennsylvanians to save the date and show their neighbors additional kindness, generosity, and love. The tradition began in 2019 and was intended to inspire a statewide movement to honor beloved Pittsburgh-native Fred Rogers. Best known for his role in the television series, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Rogers continuously demonstrated compassion and kindness, and embodied what it means to be a good neighbor. CHAMBERSBURG–The Franklin County Historical Society has announced a new temporary exhibit, “This is Their Story: African American Community History of Chambersburg”, curated by Shippensburg University student Madison Groninger. The exhibit focuses on local Black veterans and outstanding women and their oral histories. The exhibit is based on the book, “An All American Town: An Oral History of the African American Community of Franklin County, PA” by historian C. Bernard Ruffin III. The free exhibit may be viewed through Aug. 31 at The Franklin County Historical Society, 175 E. King St., Chambersburg.

CHAMBERSBURG – Orchard Drive in Chambersburg will be closed at the railroad crossing near Wayne Avenue/PA 316 for a maintenance project beginning sometime Monday, May 23. Hundreds of cars, tractor-trailers and school buses use this railroad crossing every day. CSX Railroad has not indicated how long the closing might last.Federal regulations allow railroads to close local streets to accomplish maintenance projects. The Borough has suggested a detour plan to include Kriner Road in Guilford Township as the main route to avoid this area. WAYNE HEIGHTS—The Washington Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a conditional use application for a property in the 12200 block of Charmian Lane for use as a bed and breakfast. Also at the recent meeting, Justin Kump was sworn in as a member of the Blue Ridge Summit Fire and Rescue Fire Police.
