CHAMBERSBURG – Several Franklin County departments, local law enforcement agencies and first responders are joining forces to host a free Halloween celebration for area youth. Franklin County’s annual Trunk or Treat Night will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 at Chambersburg Area Middle School North, 1957 Scotland Ave. Representatives from the Franklin County Adult Probation Department, Franklin County Juvenile Probation, Franklin County Jail, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Coroner, local law enforcement agencies, first responders and other organizations will be on hand for this safe, family friendly trick-or-treat event. WAYNESBORO – Buttonwood Nature Center, home of The Institute is offering a fall series of six outdoor nature programs for preschoolers in September and October. Designed for pre-K children ages 2.5 to 5, the Wee Wonders programs will run on Wednesdays, Sept. 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area. CHAMBERSBURG – Penn State Extension is extending an invitation to learn how to cook vegetarian as part of its “Let’s Cook with Penn State Extension” cooking class series. “Let’s Cook Vegetarian” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 2, at the Penn State Extension Franklin County office, 181 Franklin Farm Lane. CHAMBERSBURG – The Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce and Heritage Center were recognized for their stewardship in caring for the county’s Ben Franklin statue for two decades during the Wednesday, Sept. 4, Franklin County Commissioners meeting. The 10 a.m. meeting also was to include a presentation to the United Way for its August Dress Down fund raiser and a public comment period, along with other county business matters. WAYNESBORO – Washington Township Manager Vern Ashway advises that a contractor was to paint township roads starting Tuesday morning, Sept. 3.  The work was expected to flow over into Wednesday depending on conditions. This included more than 90 miles of roads for which the township is responsible.  It did not include roads owned and maintained by other jurisdictions such as PennDOT.  Ashway indicated the paint is very fast drying, and no major traffic delays were expected.
