Waynesboro Area Gala Cancer Auction Chairman Jill Kessler “couldn’t have been happier” with the results of the 40th fundraiser April 9 in Green Grove Gardens, Greencastle. “We raised $114,000 – the highest total ever – for local cancer organizations,” which will be added to the $2.5 million raised since 1982, she added. “It will be decided at our wrapup picnic June 5 where the money will go.” A total of 170 bid cards were issued, “the lowest for a long time,” according to Kessler. “But people came ready to bid. A small group of women’s enthusiasm for flower gardening will live on thanks to its donation for the beautification of Main Street in Waynesboro. A Waynesboro pastor will head to his home country of Slovakia Monday to offer aid to refugees at the border fleeing the war-torn country of Ukraine. “The church council gave me two weeks humanitarian leave to provide pastoral counseling and translating,” said the Rev.
