April is packed with enriching programs and activities at local YMCA locations and the Fort Ritchie Community Center! From family sports and fitness classes to youth nights and inspiring guest speakers, these events offer something for everyone looking to stay active, connected, and engaged in community life. Whether you’re signing up for swim lessons, joining a sports league, or attending a wellness talk, it’s a great time to celebrate spring with fun and learning opportunities for all ages.
Hagerstown YMCA
On Thursdays in April, Hagerstown YMCA will be holding Special Olympics in the Large Pool from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
On Sunday, April 26th from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Hagerstown YMCA will be hosting the first stroke mechanics class of the 2026 swim season. The cost is $100, and the sign up form can be found on the Hagerstown YMCA website!
Chambersburg YMCA
On Mondays in April, Chambersburg YMCA will be holding their Golf League at 5 p.m. The cost is $40 per person for Y members, and $50 per person for non-y members. Course fees are $23 per person per 9 holes weekly.
On Saturdays in April, Chambersburg YMCA will be holding Mini & Big T-Ball at Nitterhouse Family Program Center! From 9 – 9:45 a.m. Each child must attend with a parent or guardian aged 15 or older. It teaches basic t-ball skills, coordination, and teamwork. The cost for members is $25, and the cost for non-members is $35.
On Friday, April 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Chambersburg YMCA will be hosting their annual Healthy Kids Day! Families can participate in a wide variety of activities including crafts, games, youth sports and physical activities, giveaways, community vendor booths, and more!
Also on Friday, April 24th is the Open House Event where new members will receive a special discount, and the $30 association fee will be waived! For existing members, if you bring a friend who joins the Y, you’ll receive 20% off your current membership rate, and they will also receive 20% off their monthly or annual membership.
On Tuesday, April 28th, from 6 – 8 p.m., Chambersburg YMCA will be holding their Unbreakable Youth Night. This night is for middle school students and is all about reminding them that they’re not alone. There will be testimony from Dan Bradshaw, Music, Food, Games, and more!
Fort Ritchie Community Center
On Saturdays in April, Fort Ritchie community center will be hosting their gymnastics themed sports Saturdays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. for ages 6 – 13. The cost is $52.50 per participant, and students will be joined by coach Maggie for four Saturdays of fun, fundamentals, and skill-building.
On Friday, April 17th at 6 p.m., speaker Dr. Anne Collins Duch will be discussing insights that can help you understand your body, improve overall wellness, and learn practical tools you can use in everyday life at Fort Ritchie Community Center! This is a free event to all!
On Saturday, April 18th from 9 – 11 a.m., Fort Ritchie Community Center will be holding a Zumba for a Cause dance-a-thon to raise money for the summer camp to help provide scholarships for families in need!
On Friday, April 24th at 6 p.m., Angela Bailey will be speaking about her book, One Wound, Many Souls, which discusses civilian stories during the battle of Gettysburg at Fort Ritchie Community Center! This is a free event to all!
On Tuesdays in April, from 6 – 7:30 p.m., Fort Ritchie Community Center will be hosting their Kids Club for kids aged 6 – 13! The cost is $5 per pre-registered participant and $7 per drop-in participant!
On Wednesdays in April, from 10 – 11:30 a.m., Fort Ritchie Community Center will be hosting the Homeschool Club for ages 6-10, and 11-15! The cost is $5 per child per session and there will be social recreation, physical activity, and creativity.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 8 p.m., Fort Ritchie Community Center will be hosting the Teen Leadership Program! Individuals 12 – 18 can learn life changing skills, and get homework help! It is free to attend this program!
On Tuesday, April 14th and 28th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on Friday, April 24th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Lindsay from the Washington County Health Department will be at the Community Center to offer free blood pressure and pre-diabetes screenings.
Also on April 14th, and additionally august 28th, Tabitha’s Table, located in Smithsburg, MD, will be providing the community with food items from their pantry by 11 a.m. until the food items are gone.
On Wednesday, April 29th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can treat yourself to a mobile chair massage! You can pay by the minute for a 10-, 15-, or 20-minute session with Miranda Tyler, massage therapist. Appointments are by walk-in only, and all clients must sign a liability waiver before receiving service.
