Expect a wet, humid month

The first week of August the Almanack predicts, “warm and humid with frequent mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms.” The second week will begin several days of “seasonably warm and humid days with a few days of downpours at the beginning of the week. The following two weeks will be more of the same with warm temperatures and afternoon showers. The last week of the month will be the return of summer heat with temperatures expected to be “very hot and humid.”

Harvesting for August

According to the Almanack’s planting, weeding and harvesting calendar, the best days to work in the field are Aug. 5-6, 16-17 and 23-24. For above ground crops such as beans, corn and wheat, the best days are Aug. 1-2, 9-10, 18-19, 28-29. For weeding the fields, farmers should consider Aug. 7-8, 11-15.
