Affordable housing project underway

Left to right: Eric Wagaman, Assistant Construction Manager, Luminest, Inc., and Scott Branyan, Technical Services Representative, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, inspect new roofs and upgraded HVAC systems at Valley Terrace Townhomes in the Borough of Waynesboro.

WAYNESBORO — Luminest Community Development recently broke ground on a new project in the borough which will provide affordable housing to local families.

The two homes located at 242 and 248 West Second Street next to Renaissance Place are blighted, code noncompliant and were purchased from the borough. They will be demolished to make way for two new construction 3 bedroom single-family dwellings.

The homes would be available to first-time homebuyers who qualify for the home purchase program through an affordability analysis.

A successful homeowner must annually certify they are living in the home as their primary residence.

The project is a joint effort between the Borough of Waynesboro, Franklin County Commissioners and Luminest.

Construction is expected to begin in early fall with completions in 2022.
