Varsity Hubs continue undefeated season

HAGERSTOWN – On Friday evening, Sept. 26, the 3-0 varsity football Hubs of North Hagerstown High School took to the field of Mike Callas Stadium to face the challenge of the 2-1 Virginia team, the Central Woodstock Falcons. When it ended, the Hubs had a third win at 18-7.

The first half of the game was all about defense and penalties. Neither team was able to find the end zone despite some solid rushing on the ground that were shut down by rock solid defense stands and foolish penalties. Near the end of the half, the Falcons were threatening to score due to a series of penalties, which had them with a 3rd down and 30 yards to go. The Hubs’ defense stayed strong and stopped them on fourth down to close out the half.

After a halftime show that included a celebration of seniors who participated in the celebrated North High marching band, the enthusiastic home crowd was ready for some action.

The Hubs delivered coming out for a quick score after running back a punt return. The Falcons answered back on the very next drive as they marched down field to score a touchdown of their own.

It was a story of two halves of football; the opening half was a defensive affair, while the second half was an offensive showcase. North High opened up their running game with junior Michael Stewart, who rushed for 131 yards, and Ty’Qwell Fauntleroy, who powered his way downfield to score the Hubs’ second touchdown of the game.

A costly fourth quarter turnover by the Falcons as they threatened to tie the game, took the wind out of their sails, and the Hubs used classic ground and pound football to move downfield and get a field goal to secure their fourth win of the season.
