The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that the northbound Interstate 81 off-ramp at Exit 5 (Route 16/Greencastle/Waynesboro) in Franklin County will be closed beginning this Sunday night for a reconstruction project. Traffic will be detoured.
Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 16 at Exit 5 will be closed at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28. The work is expected to be completed and the ramp open to traffic by 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1.
A detour will be in place. Northbound I-81 traffic should continue north to Exit 10 (Route 914/Marion), then return south on I-81 to Exit 5.
This work is part of a project that includes milling, concrete patching, asphalt resurfacing, guiderail updates, signage, and pavement markings on northbound and southbound I-81 from the Maryland State Line to Milepost 6, including ramps located within the project limits.
Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, is the contractor on this $17.8 million project.
All work is expected to be completed by July 16, 2027.
