Farmers Market blends reading, entertainment on Main Street

WAYNESBORO– Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc. teamed up with Humble Roots Mushroom Farm, the Alexander Hamiliton Memorial Free Library and Roll Time, to bring music, food, vendors and books to 25 Main St. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The event was called “All About Reading Farmers Market” and ran from 8:30 a.m. until noon. There was a nice crowd on the sunny early fall day, and many of the vendors had festive offerings to get everyone ready for the upcoming holiday season.

There were artisans with variety of offerings such as homemade candles, hand-crafted jewelry, flower and plant arrangements and even some items for the furry members of the family. It wouldn’t be a farmers market without fresh produce and homemade treats from local farms including Five Forks Aquaponics and Grace’s Family Farm.

There were even some unique vendors such as Witches in the Woods, who offered a variety of specialty candles, incense burners, original paintings and even a comic book published by the vendor, Amon Schreibt.

Parked in the back of the market was the “Book Hop” mobile where the kids could seek out new reads and rediscover some old ones. Also at the event was the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, which had a vendor table where visitors could meet with library staff and see what upcoming events will be happening this fall season.

If you were looking for a snack while doing your shopping, there were plenty of tasty offerings around the market. There was a coffee truck in the back and Taqueria La Cienega had a food tent where they served tasty tamales and empanadas. Parked at the entrance on Main Street was the Roll Time truck where visitors could grab a specialty drink and some delicious pastries.

Helping to keep the event festive was the music of local musician Brian Lutz, an acoustic guitarist who performed live from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. There was something for everyone! The next event on the radar for Mainstreet Waynesboro, Inc., will be “Market Day” on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m;-3 p.m.
