September is Suicide Prevention Month, you can help!

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Police Department is reminding readers that September is Suicide Prevention Month.

“This month reminds us that talking about suicide isn’t harmful – silence is,” police said. “One honest conversation can be a turning point in someone’s life. Opening up about your mental health journey – good, bad or messy – creates space for healing.”:

Officers suggested, “Let’s make silence a thing of the past. Start a conversation. Be the difference. Prevention begins with awareness: Learn the warning signs. Normalize help-seeking. Remind others that proven treatments work.”

Readers can learn more: samhsa.gov/mental-health/suicidal-behavior/warning-signs. Need to talk? Call or text 988, or chat via 988lifeline.org. No matter where you live in the U.S., you’ll be connected to a trained crisis counselor who can help.
