Rotary Club hosts annual Battle of the Minds

WAYNESBORO – Area residents are invited to match wits in a super-sized trivia contest while raising funds to benefit two local community organizations. Battle of the Minds, an annual fundraising event, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 5:30 p.m., at Green Grove Gardens near Greencastle.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Waynesboro, proceeds benefit local community organizations. Rotary’s 2025 nonprofit partner, Buttonwood Nature Center, provides environmental and cultural education to the children and families of the Cumberland Valley region.

The event includes silent and online auctions, a live auction, open cocktail hour, catered meal—and the main attraction, the Battle of the Minds trivia game.

The game pits each table against the others in a Trivial Pursuit-style game with multiple choice questions. When a question appears on the screen, each table will have 10 seconds to choose their answer and respond using an electronic remote. The score board is updated throughout the game, and the winning team will receive an $800 cash prize.

Co-sponsor Buttonwood offers programs throughout the year for school children and families, plus community events, speakers, workshops and field experiences for adults and teens.

“Buttonwood Nature Center is delighted to be chosen as this year’s co-sponsor,” said executive director, Tracy Holliday. “Funds provided through our Battle of the Minds partnership will be designated for the creation of a nature playscape.”

A ‘nature playscape’ includes elements from the earth such as tree logs and stumps, boulders, plants and sand. In addition, activity-related features like climb-on sculptures, cargo ropes, swings and areas for music and art engage the senses as kids explore, discover and learn.

“This new playscape will be open free for area families to enjoy, as well as being used in our programs for young learners,” Holliday said.

Sponsors are needed for this community event. For information on becoming a sponsor, call Greg Duffey at 717- 977-1207.
