CHAMBERSBURG– The Franklin County Commissioners proudly presented the August Employee of the Month award to Giana Johnson during the board’s Aug. 27 public meeting. Johnson has been employed by Franklin County since January 2024 and serves as a caseworker I – ongoing with the county’s children and youth services department.

August’s Employee of the Month recipient was determined by the Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Committee, which received 23 nominations for the August award, seven of which were for Johnson. The nominations spoke to Johnson’s adept handling of an emergency situation involving one of her clients and how her quick thinking and attention to detail maintained the safety of everyone who could be impacted.

“Gina followed protocol and…demonstrated that under an intense situation, she maintains strong judgement and decision-making skills,” said the nominations. “She was able to think quickly on her feet and was very calm throughout the whole ordeal. Her ability to recall information was incredibly helpful in the moment. It’s obvious that she is very in touch with her cases and clients.”

“Giana has shown how working at Children and Youth Services can be done with the interests of the children at heart,” said one coworker. “Giana interacts well with her families, understands their needs, and seeks to assist families while keeping the agency’s guidelines in mind. Giana’s thorough and detailed understanding of her cases helps to ensure that deadlines are met, appointments kept and everything flows smoothly.”

Another colleague wrote, “Giana is a levelheaded individual. Ever since I met her, she has been very determined. In working with her, I see how she supports the families on her caseloads, and I admire her commitment. She is thorough, friendly and open-minded. She treats everyone with kindness and respect. She is compassionate with her peers and resourceful.”

“Giana is a hard worker and continues to help out families in need,” said another nomination. “She shows why she deserves to be chosen [for Employee of the Month] as she comes in daily and goes above and beyond in her work each day.”

Johnson’s outstanding characteristics are attributes that have not gone unnoticed by her peers. Those who work alongside her describe her as focused, professional, knowledgeable, resilient, caring, helpful, conscientious, dependable, remarkable, courageous, trusting, hardworking and goal oriented. Johnson is also described as someone who goes above and beyond for each person, maintains a professional attitude even during a crisis, and is calm under stressful situations.

The Franklin County Commissioners congratulated Johnson on her recognition and thanked her for her excellent work and for exuding such a high standard of knowledge, leadership and excellence to the employees and residents of Franklin County.
