HAGERSTOWN – The Washington County Commission on Aging will host a free event on Wednesday, Aug. 27, to educate the public about diabetes prevention and management. The event, held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 535 E. Franklin St., will include free blood sugar checks, officials said.
Diabetes has become a common disease in the United States and worldwide, with about 10 percent of Americans affected, according to the event flyer. Of those, 90-95 percent have type 2 diabetes. The session aims to help attendees learn more about prevention and management while offering the opportunity to have their blood sugar levels checked.
The event is a collaborative effort with Meritus Health, which is working alongside the Commission on Aging Inc. Organizers encourage residents to attend and take advantage of the free health services provided.
