Adams County Sweet Stroll: A delicious journey through Gettysburg’s sweetest spots

GETTYSBURG – Destination Gettysburg invites locals and visitors alike to embark on a delightful culinary adventure with the Adams County Sweet Stroll, a self-guided trail celebrating the region’s tastiest treats. Running through Sept. 1, this limited-time experience offers a unique way to explore Adams County’s vibrant food scene, indulging in everything from creamy ice cream and handcrafted chocolates to locally roasted coffee and retro sodas.

The Adams County Sweet Stroll is designed to appeal to families, couples and food enthusiasts, encouraging participants to discover both iconic establishments and hidden gems across Gettysburg and beyond. With more than a dozen participating businesses, the trail showcases the area’s small-town hospitality and rich culinary offerings. Whether you’re craving a frosted cupcake, a refreshing milkshake, or a rich espresso, the Sweet Stroll promises a flavorful journey through Adams County’s sweetest spots.

“This trail is a must-visit for anyone who loves desserts, coffee, or simply exploring new experiences in Gettysburg,” said Karl Pietrzak, president and CEO of Destination Gettysburg. “It’s a fun way to indulge your sweet tooth, plan a date or treat the family while discovering the unique charm of our local businesses.”

Participants can join the Sweet Stroll by signing up for a free digital passport at destinationgettysburg.com/sweet. The passport, delivered instantly via text and email, requires no app download and can be saved to your phone’s home screen for easy access.

As you visit each participating location, you check in using the digital passport and enter a unique code specific to that business to earn points. These points can be redeemed for prizes such as a Destination Gettysburg embroidered apron, coffee mug, T-shirt, drinking glass, or baseball cap, adding an extra layer of fun to the experience.

Among the 15 participating businesses are local favorites like Mr. G’s Ice Cream, housed in the historic Twin Sycamores House built in 1819, offering 16 flavors of homemade ice cream, and Sweeet! The Candy Store, where visitors can sip on Gettysburg root beer and nostalgic sodas. Cottage Creperie, a newer addition to the community, delights with made-to-order sweet and savory crepes crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Other stops include Bantam Coffee Roasters, Gettysburg Chocolate Market, Kilwin’s Chocolate, Fudge & Ice Cream, and Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium, ensuring a diverse array of treats to satisfy any craving.

Mary Grace Kauffman, media relations manager for Destination Gettysburg, highlighted the trail’s appeal: “We realized Adams County has so many sweet offerings – ice cream shops, coffee shops, a creperie, a chocolate market. It just made sense to put it all together in a trail for everyone to enjoy.” The Sweet Stroll not only introduces visitors to new businesses but also draws locals to explore places they might not have visited before.

For business owners like Cindy Fox of Sweeet! The Candy Store, the trail is an opportunity to connect with new customers. “We offer unique sodas that people may not have seen in a while, like Gettysburg root beer,” Fox said. “It’s a great way to bring new faces to our store and share our passion for sweets.” Similarly, Lori Mitchell of Cottage Creperie noted, “There’s no better way to experience Gettysburg than to eat your way through it.”

The Sweet Stroll is Destination Gettysburg’s first temporary trail, complementing its established offerings like the Adams County Pour Tour, which focuses on craft beverages, the Adams County Crop Hop, highlighting farm-fresh experiences, and the Gettysburg Black History Trail. Available through Labor Day, the Sweet Stroll encourages participants to savor the flavors of Adams County while earning rewards, making it a perfect summer activity for foodies and adventurers alike.
