GETTYSBURG- Grandparents looking to spend time with their grandchildren can attend an upcoming Penn State Extension event for an afternoon of fun and investigation of nature.
“Grandparent Day Nature Scavenger Hunt” will occur from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.
The scavenger hunt is intended for children ages 4 and older accompanied by a biological or “adopted” grandparent.
Participants will search for objects, answer questions and complete activities to learn about the diversity of plants and wildlife and the ways that the center supports a healthy environment. Participants can win prizes by collecting a certain number of listed scavenger hunt items.
The workshop will offer participants:
— The chance to observe and explore details in nature.
— Opportunities for bonding between children and adults during a shared experience.
— Ideas for simple methods of engaging with the natural world.
Preregistration for the event ends Sept. 6, but organizers will allow walk-in participants. Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge.
The event will be held rain or shine. Organizers ask that participants be prepared to be outdoors during light rain. Activities will be moved indoors where possible in the case of steadier rain.
