Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week kicks off with heartfelt ceremony

GREENCASTLE – The 42nd Triennial Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week began with a vibrant opening ceremony on Aug. 2, bringing together community leaders, residents and visitors in a celebration of local heritage.

Pastor Mike Carey of Grand Point Church-Greencastle delivered a stirring invocation, setting a reflective tone for the event. Scouts presented the colors, and Ryan Eberly’s rendition of the National Anthem filled the air with patriotism. Adding to the festive atmosphere, Lacey Horst performed a musical selection that resonated with the crowd.

Greencastle Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. welcomed attendees and presented a “Welcome Home” proclamation to Old Home Week President Garon Gembe, emphasizing the town’s pride in its traditions. “This week is about coming together and celebrating our shared history,” Thomas said.

Pennsylvania Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) and Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) offered remarks, highlighting the community’s resilience and unity. Antrim Township Supervisor John Alleman also spoke, underscoring the importance of local collaboration in making the event a success.

The ceremony marked the start of a weeklong celebration featuring parades, performances, and community gatherings, continuing a tradition that has united Greencastle-Antrim since 1885.
