Mr. Roy E. Statler, 96, formerly of 977 Kauffman Road West, Greencastle, PA, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Chambersburg Hospital. He had resided at Celebration Villa, Shippensburg, PA, for the past 1 ½ years. Roy was the last of his immediate family.
Born April 5, 1929, in St. Thomas Township, PA, he was the son of the late John and Clara (Barnhart) Statler.
He attended St. Thomas schools.
He and his wife, the late Ruth E. (Fritz) Statler were married January 28, 1950. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage together before Mrs. Statler passed away January 31, 2012.
Mr. Statler was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, where he served aboard the USS Caloosahatchee AO-98 and the USS Elokomin AO-55.
He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot from 1950 until his retirement in 1984 as a warehouseman.
Mr. Statler was a life member of the Greencastle Sportsman’s Association and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Dry Run American Legion and a member of the AAA for 62 years. He enjoyed cutting wood and hunting. He was cutting wood until he was 90 years old!
He is survived by three children, Robert L. Statler and his wife Nancy of Chambersburg, PA, Anna M. Cordell and her husband Donald of Mercersburg, PA, and Alexander L. “Andy” Statler of Greencastle; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles A. Statler, a step-great-grandson, Keith A. Carbaugh, a step great-great grandson, Camdyn Moomaw, two sisters, Florence Mowen and Janet Barney, and two brothers, Ray Statler and Charles Statler.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle, PA, with Donald Cordell officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, will follow at Browns Mill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 3rd from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and again one hour prior to the service on Monday.
