James P. “Jim” “J.P.” Howard, 80, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Mercy House of Chambersburg in Chambersburg, PA.
He was born on March 1, 1945, in York, PA, to the late Albert J. and Anna M. (Glassmyer) Howard.
Jim graduated with his bachelors degree from the Pennsylvania State University. He was employed by the Chambersburg Area School District at J. Frank Faust Junior High School as an Algebra teacher until his retirement. He served in the United States Army from 1964 – 1967. He loved to help out in any way that he could. He gave to many military and children’s health organizations throughout his life. He was a member at King Street Church where he taught Sunday school for over 50 years. In his free time, he enjoyed golf and house painting.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Kegerreis) Howard, of Chambersburg, PA, whom he married on November 4, 1967; sons, Wade Howard and his wife Paula of Chambersburg, PA; Donald Howard and his wife Laura of Paoli, PA; grandchildren, Lucas and Benjamin; and sister, Barbara Figlok of Dover, PA.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Albert, David, Richard, and sister, Rose.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Ron Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 2:30 PM where military honors will be provided by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
