5 things to do this weekend

Santa is trading his sleigh for a motorcycle at Waynesboro’s annual Christmas in July celebration, inviting riders and reindeer to rev their engines for a good cause. The Summer Santa Ride, hosted by Mainstreet Waynesboro and the Monterey Pass Chapter of ABATE of PA, kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in the parking lot of Waynesboro Apothecary, 604 E. Main St. The event raises funds for downtown revitalization efforts and includes visits with Santa at Market at the Park from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Free one-hour parking and special promotions at local shops and restaurants round out this festive midsummer day.

Artists and animal lovers alike will find their muse at Antrim Spring Farm in Greencastle, where “Paint Night” invites guests to brush up on their creativity Saturday, July 26. From 5 to 8 p.m., participants can paint a highland cow – and cozy up to one in real life – while enjoying a grazing table of light refreshments. The event is BYOB, offering an udderly unique twist on the classic paint-and-sip experience.

Country gospel fans will have a reason to kick up their heels Sunday, July 27, when Mercy Run takes center stage at Chambersburg’s Memorial Park Kiwanis Bandshell at 7 p.m. The July 27 performance is part of the town’s 2025 Summer Concert Series, offering residents a chance to enjoy live music under the stars. The concert is free and open to the public, continuing the community tradition of summer sounds in the park.

Sweet tooth alert: The Maryland Theatre is turning four floors into a candy lover’s playground as CNB Bank presents CandyFest, set for July 25-27. Children and adults alike can create custom candy crafts, ride the “waves” at Gummy Bear Beach, and face off in a giant Maryland-themed board game or classic lawn games at Lollipop Park. Adventure-seekers will race through a not-so-hidden scavenger hunt, while Instagram fans can try to snap the sweetest selfie amid colorful décor. Every corner of the Performing Arts Center brims with treats, balloons, temporary tattoos, candy-themed mocktails and even a special screening of 2023’s “Wonka.” Timed entry tickets are required for this festival’s sugar rush; choose your date and start time when purchasing.

Hagerstown’s City Park is set to become a blockbuster under the stars as Maryland Physicians Care hosts free outdoor movies in the Band Shell. Families can kick off the fun Friday, July 25, with pre-movie activities at 7 p.m., followed by a screening of “Inside Out 2” at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, but benches are also available. Concessions will be on hand to round out a summer evening of entertainment and community.
