Mrs. Mary L. (Jones) Gordon, 87, of Mont Alto, PA passed away Wednesday July 16, 2025, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born October 22, 1937 in Mont Alto, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. “Ralph” and Florence L. (Piper) Jones. She was a lifelong resident of the Mont Alto area.
Mrs. Gordon graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School with the Class of 1955.
She and her husband, the late Charles E. Gordon, were married on July 28, 1956. Mr. Gordon died on November 21, 2021.
In her early life, Mrs. Gordon worked in the Draft Board office in Chambersburg, PA. After raising her children, she became the secretary for Otterbein U.M.C. and Wesley U.M.C, both of Mont Alto. She later worked at Letterkenny Army Depot as an office administrator, retiring after more than 20 years of service.
She was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Mont Alto, where she was active in the music department for over 75 years – including music director, choir director and longtime organist/pianist. She continued to play the organ at church up until 3 weeks prior to her passing.
Mrs. Gordon loved her church and church activities. She was passionate about music and enjoyed volunteering at Montessori Academy in Chambersburg.
She is survived by her son, Michael E. Gordon and his wife, Jodie of Smithfield, VA; her daughter, Lisa S. (Gordon) de Salis of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Jonathan de Salis and his wife, Ashley and Joseph de Salis and his wife, Gabrielle; and twin great-grandchildren, Jonah and Amelia de Salis; her siblings, John A. Jones and his wife, Kay and Nancy Kauffman and her husband, Randy, both of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles W. “Jim” Jones.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 20, 2025 in Mont Alto United Methodist Church (formerly Wesley United Methodist Church), 10 S. Main St., Mont Alto, PA. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
