Mrs. Janet L. Groft, age 65, of Chambersburg, PA, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Shippensburg Nursing and Rehab in Shippensburg, PA.
Born on February 4, 1960, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Richard H. and Carrie (Black) Blizzard.
On December 28, 1991, Janet married Mr. Kenneth J. Groft at Pond Bank Mennonite Church, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that spanned 15 years. Mr. Groft died in 2007.
Janet was a woman of diverse interests and passions. She found immense joy in working outdoors, tending to her garden, and embracing the tranquility of nature. Her creative spirit was evident in her love for crafting, where she meticulously created handmade items that reflected her attention to detail and artistic flair. Janet also had a deep appreciation for classic television shows. Additionally, she was an avid collector of Boyd’s Bears, cherishing each piece for its unique character and the joy it brought her.
Janet is survived by her loving stepdaughters, Debra A. Myers of Mont Alto, PA, and Teresa L. Berrier of Pond Bank, PA; stepson, James A. Groft, Sr., and his wife Michelle of Chambersburg, PA. Additionally, she leaves behind her cherished step-grandchildren: Travis Carbaugh, Chad Groft, Britney Myers, Jennifer Berrier, and Steven Berrier, along with great-step-grandchildren: Blake Carbaugh, Gracie Carbaugh, Nick Carbaugh, Willow Rowe, Bailee Harnish, Saydee Harnish, Kylie Groft, Alyssa Groft, and Chad Groft, Jr. Janet is also survived by her siblings: Merna “PeeWee” Traxler of Fayetteville, Carrie “Skipper” Knouse of Biglerville, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved step-grandson, James Groft, Jr., great-stepdaughter, Aubrey Berrier, and siblings Richard Blizzard, Gerald Blizzard, Patsy Blizzard, Charles “Danny” Blizzard, Joyce Blizzard, and Linda Groft.
In honoring Janet’s wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family with burial in Strang’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268, to assist with funeral expenses.
