LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

WAYNESBORO– Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected.

The Waynesboro Area YMCA and the LIVESTRONG Foundation have joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health through a safe and supportive environment.

The Waynesboro Area YMCA will debut the 12-week program beginning on Oct. 3. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA will help people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

Throughout the 12 weeks, participants (18 and older) will meet twice a week and work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance and improving confidence and self-esteem.

During the program, the staff will listen and learn from individuals, support them through and help navigate them through survivor-ship services. The Y will build communities of survivors by bringing programs and events through LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA.

Registration and medical clearances are required. Contact the YMCA for more information.
