WAYNESBORO—Birds have been flying out the door at Waynesboro Community & Human Services.
WCHS chose to distribute turkeys and chicken roasters this year in place of a Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
“We had to make this decision in September when COVID numbers were very high in Franklin County,” explained Denise Esser, executive director.
On Nov. 19, WCHS distributed turkeys or chickens to 224 families. Along with the birds, recipients received a box of groceries and a disposable aluminum roasting pan.
“It takes many people to make a curbside distribution happen,” Esser said. “Thanks to volunteers from LCBC, YMCA, FBLA of WASHS and many other individuals who shared their time, their muscle, their energy and good nature.”
Turkeys and chickens are still available for pickup through 12 noon on Wednesday, Nov. 24, for those who missed the distribution.
