Veterinary Students Practice Skills

CHAMBERSBURG– Students from the veterinary assistance program at Franklin County Career and Technology Center recently had the opportunity to practice their skills with Emily Brown from Greencastle Veterinary Hospital. Brown brought a horse named, Ace, to the school for the students to learn about handling, restraining, grooming, and tacking.

The students are preparing for the National SkillsUSA Competition in Indianapolis, and Brown’s visit was a valuable opportunity for them to practice their skills in a real-world setting.

The National SkillsUSA Competition is a showcase of the skills and talents of students in career and technical education programs. The competition features more than 60 skill categories, including veterinary science.

The Franklin County Career and Technology Center veterinary assistance program is a two-year program that prepares students for careers in the veterinary field. The program covers a wide range of topics, including animal anatomy, physiology, and nutrition; veterinary procedures and medications; and veterinary business practices.
