Waynesboro Area Primary Elections Town Hall Scheduled

May 20 primaries count!

WAYNESBORO–A Town Hall style gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at the Waynesboro Country Club.

The Town Hall will feature candidates for District Magistrate, Washington Township Supervisor, Waynesboro Borough Council and the Waynesboro Area School District Board of Directors.

Organized by the “Conservative Women and Friends of the Waynesboro Area“, the purpose of this event is to promote voter turnout and provide information to inform voters about the candidates, according to spokeswoman Robin Biser.

The format is designed to allow time for all 17 candidates in the four races time to introduce themselves, respond to questions from moderators and the audience, provide time to respond to attendee questions and complete the evening by 8:30 p.m.

“We’ll start promptly at 6 p.m. with a 5 minute review of the agenda for the evening, and two minutes for each candidate to introduce themselves,” said Biser.  “After that we’ll take races for magistrate, supervisor, borough and school district one at a time.  For each race, each candidate will answer two questions from the organizers and have 10 minutes after that to respond to questions from the audience”.

Candidates invited to attend include: Bryan P. Chappell Jr (R) and Annie R. Gomez-Shockey (D/R) (Magisterial District Judge);  Chad P. Rooney (R), Ted Snowberger III (R) and Charles L. Strausbaugh (R) (Washington Township Supervisor); (Waynesboro Borough Council): Ward 1, Mike Cermak (R), Ascohi Helman (R), and Sarah Provard (D); Ward 2, Jon Fleagle; and Ward 3, Patrick E. Fleagle (R).  And Waynesboro Area School District Board of Directors candidates:  North End, Rachel Fortney (R), Patricia A. Strite (R); Washington, Karen Fitzgerald Herald (D/R), Clint Pentz ((R), Margie Schaeffer (R), and Linda F. Zimmerman (D/R); and in the Waynesboro Borough, Lloyd Hamberger (R).

“We’re hopeful all will show up,” Biser said.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm and scheduled activities will begin at 6 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

“Our organization is relatively new, but we recognized the need to help voters to know who they are voting for,” she said. “We hope to expand what we’re doing in the future.” For more information, contact organizer Robin Biser at (717) 387-3724.
