HAGERSTOWN, MD–Antietam Historical Association will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, April 26, at Fountain Head Country Club, 13316 Fountain Head Road, Hagerstown. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour. A chicken cordon bleu dinner (or vegetarian alternative) follows at 6:30 p.m.
Following dinner, Jean Woods, a noted art consultant and former director of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, will present “Pennsylvania German Decorative Arts.” The illustrated talk will showcase Pennsylvania German objects ranging from furniture to fraktur and pottery to metalwork. Woods has given numerous speeches on material culture, and her writings have appeared in Antietam Heritage and the Maine Antique Digest.
The social hour consists of hors d’œuvres, cash bar, piano music performed by Sally Wolfe, and an exhibit of memorabilia from the Blue Mountain House by H. Wayne Bartholow. Blue Mountain House was the largest of the summer hotels that once stood in the Pen-Mar region.
Cost for the event is $45 per person, payable when making reservations. To make reservations, send remittance made payable to AHA (indicating choice of chicken or vegetarian dinner) to Antietam Historical Association, 119 W. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268. The deadline for making reservations is Tuesday, April 18. AHA cannot offer refunds on cancellations submitted after that date.
