The Institute Presents: Birds with a Gettysburg Address

WAYNESBORO— The second program in The Institute’s 3-part series, What’s the Buzz in Your Backyard? is “Birds with a Gettysburg Address,” presented by Bonnie Portzline on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. in the social room at Church of the Apostles in Waynesboro. Admission is free.

This informative and entertaining program documents birds within and around historic Gettysburg National Military Park.

A member of South Mountain Audubon Society, Portzline wrote a monthly column, Bird’s-Eye View, for the Gettysburg Times for five years, and is now writing a book on the subject.

Featuring her own photography, her slideshow program highlights some of the 175+ species spotted in the Gettysburg area, and explores how these relate to the birds that inhabit or visit your own backyard.

“I encourage birding as an activity that is good for nature as well as for the mind, body, and spirit,” Portzline said.

The final program in the series, on March 23, is “Backyard Critters: Furry, Scaly, Slimy,” presented by Erika Coover of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
