CHAMBERSBURG – Downtown Chambersburg Inc. has introduced the Main Street Matters Business Improvement Microgrant Program, a new funding initiative aimed at strengthening the heart of downtown Chambersburg. The program provides microgrants of up to $5,000 to eligible business and property owners for improvements and marketing projects that align with DCI’s vision of a vibrant, inclusive Main Street.
Funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development, the microgrants are designed to stimulate private investment, attract visitors, and create a more inviting downtown environment. Priority will be given to small, women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses, reflecting DCI’s commitment to equity and opportunity.
Applicants must match the grant dollar-for-dollar and complete their projects within 120 days of approval. Eligible expenses include capital purchases, facility upgrades, technology, and marketing, while payroll, rent and consumables are excluded. The program is open only to existing commercial properties or small businesses within the designated downtown district.
Three information sessions will be held at the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce in early June to guide interested applicants through the process. The deadline to apply is June 30.
DCI leaders expressed excitement about the program’s potential to foster pride, create jobs, and support local entrepreneurs. “With the Main Street Matters Microgrant, we’re giving our businesses and property owners the tools to invest in that front door—to attract visitors, create jobs, preserve history and foster pride in our downtown,” said Sam Thrush, DCI President.
Eligible businesses are encouraged to apply and help shape a stronger, more beautiful downtown Chambersburg.
