B-29 Doc, P-51 Gunfighter to visit Hagerstown Aviation Museum

HAGERSTOWN – The Hagerstown Aviation Museum will host the B-29 Doc History Restored Tour and the P-51 Mustang Gunfighter from May 27 through June 2, offering visitors a rare chance to experience two of World War II’s most iconic aircraft up close.

The tour stop will feature ground and cockpit tours of both aircraft, as well as warbird ride experiences on select days. Rides on the B-29 Doc and P-51 Gunfighter will be available May 30, 31 and June 1, with tickets on sale through the aircrafts’ respective websites and at the museum during the event.

John Seburn, executive director of the museum, said the event will coincide with the 51st Annual East Coast Military Vehicle Rally, creating a unique opportunity for attendees to see historic military vehicles, explore vendor spaces, and enjoy the museum’s extensive collection. “This unique combination of WWII aircraft, historic military vehicles, and the museum’s one-of-a-kind collection promises an unforgettable experience for all attendees,” Seburn said.

B-29 Doc is one of only two B-29 Superfortress bombers still flying, while the P-51 Gunfighter is among fewer than 150 airworthy P-51 Mustangs worldwide. Both aircraft will be open for tours when not in flight.

Dan Schone, B-29 Doc aircraft commander, emphasized the historical significance of the event, noting the partnership brings together two symbols of American airpower. Jon Hullsiek, P-51 Gunfighter pilot, added that every flight honors the legacy of those who served and connects visitors to their stories.

The military vehicle rally will run May 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring vehicles from WWII to the present and more than 200 vendor spaces. Food trucks will be on site, and parking will be available by following event signs.

Admission for the event, including museum access, aircraft tours and the military vehicle rally, is $15 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the museum, 18450 Showalter Road, Building 8, Hagerstown.
