GREENCASTLE– The Relay For Life of Franklin and Fulton counties celebrated its 30th anniversary Friday, May 16, marking three decades of community fundraising for the American Cancer Society in Greencastle.
The event, part of the national Relay For Life’s 40th year, was set up on Kaley Field at Greencastle-Antrim High School. Organizers quickly moved the festivities into the high school gym after a thunderstorm rolled through the area.
Teams of participants walked laps through the gym and down the hallway, keeping the spirit of the event alive despite the weather. The evening featured the traditional pinning of survivors and caregivers, followed by the emotional survivor’s lap.
As the skies cleared, the Relay returned outdoors by the end of the evening, allowing participants to finish the event under the open sky. Organizers said the milestone anniversary highlighted the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting cancer research and honoring those affected by the disease.
