WAYNESBORO – Emotional intelligence was the topic at last week’s Waynesboro Rotary Club meeting. Heather Hockenberry of Hockenberry Management Consulting presented a program entitled, “The Power of Emotional Intelligence.”
She defined emotional intelligence at the ability to sense, understand and effectively apply the power and acumen of your emotions and the emotions of others. Awareness and trust are two of the most important aspects of emotional intelligence, she said.
Self-awareness involves knowing our own emotions and how to regulate them. Social awareness involved “reading the room,” – being aware of the emotions of others. Being attentive to your own emotional state and that of others is essential to successfully managing relationships and building networks whether in business or personal life.
“It’s an area where every single persons needs work,” Hockenberry said.
